St. Martin Gymnasium and Climbing Hall, Villach, Carinthia (Austria)

Positioning the new gymnasium parallel to the street leads to three essential factors: High public presence, protection of the outdoor sports facilities behind the building and the definition of a space as a connecting element between the existing school building and the new gymnasium. The height of the new building is oriented towards the existing building.

The protective projection of the roof over the climbing wall and the lowered entrance and spectator area takes up the theme of the overhang. The whole building is characterised by a sophisticated distribution of light and the transparency of the perforated sheet copper facade in the climbing wall area.
