22.09.2023 Holzbaupreis Styria 2023

The new Voisthalerhütte received the Holzbaupreis Steiermark 2023 from countless entries in the Public or Commercial Buildings category.
Together with our expert planners, we are delighted about the award and would like to thank all those involved in the project for their excellent cooperation.

“The new Voisthalerhütte sits like an erratic block on the eastern edge of the high valley of the Upper Dullwitz. In order to meet today’s requirements of a refuge, the existing hut was replaced by a new building, which appears as a point of orientation between Hochschwab, Wetterkogel, Karlhochkogel and Fölzsattel in the form of a simple, clear volume in the impressive mountain landscape. Respect and modesty towards the site and the simplicity of the building task “shelter” were both formally carried out on the outside and implemented on the inside…On the outside, an irregular wooden formwork made of rough-sawn larch boards was installed on site by the craftsmen. The rear-ventilated façade changes over time due to weather and environmental influences, so that the appearance of the building will inscribe itself in its surroundings over the years, creating an identity. Building in high alpine terrain is a special challenge for the planners and the builders. In the case of the Voisthalerhütte, it was cleverly mastered with high precision and spatially realised in an exemplary manner.”
